Federation of Social Workers Announces Recipients of the 2015 Ed Grabowski-Dina Finn Memorial Scholarship
The Federation of Social Workers is proud to announce announce the two winners of the annual Ed Grabowski-Dina Finn Memorial Scholarships: Erin Barone, a senior at
the College of Brockport, and Melayka Amelia Brown Cruz, a senior at Greece-Olympia High School.
Barone studies nursing at the College of Brockport. She has been involved with Federation events and activities since she was young and has participated in rallies, parades and collections
for the Salvation Army and Melita House. She hopes to use the skills she has learned from her Federation involvement to become part of a health care union. Barone lives in Henrietta.
Cruz has been active with the Federation for 10 years. She has participated in various walks for breast cancer, Trayvon Martin, the March on Washington, and multiple sclerosis. She has also been
a participant in domestic violence prevention workshops. Cruz said growing up with her mother in the labor movement has helped her share experiences with her classmates. She hopes to continue to
fight for justice for workers. Cruz will be studying at the College of Brockport or UNC in the fall, where she will major in nursing.
“We are proud to be able to help support Erin and Melayka in their educational careers, and we wish them great success,” said Federation president Chad Kyler.

The Federation is now accepting nominations in all categories for this year's Human Service Worker of the Year Awards event, which will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the
Rochester Riverside Convention Center. Previous recipients of these awards have come from a wide variety of human service areas including: education, health care, law enforcement, public safety, social work, volunteers,
business and other community organizations. Any efforts that are made by individuals or groups, which serve those in need in our community, are eligible for consideration by our panel of judges. Please nominate a co-worker,
volunteer, colleague, organization or business in our community that you believe deserves special recognition for their exceptional contributions to helping others. Nominations can be completed and submitted online and only
require a simple narrative describing in your own words why you feel they deserve be honored.

The Monroe County Federation of Social Workers, IUE-CWA Local 81381, is the oldest public sector social worker union in the United States of America.
